Building paints manufacturer wins the medium-sized company prize "Hidden Champion" in the Sustainability category

Ober-Ramstadt, 30th May 2012 (DAW) – OBER RAMSTADT. The news TV channel, n-tv, went looking for the "Hidden Champions 2012" amongst owner-managed companies with headquarters in Germany. Companies which had made an excellent contribution to the German economy through their work – but which had until now largely remained outside of the public limelight. Such as the Deutsche Amphibolin-Werke von Robert Murjahn Stiftung & Co KG with its headquarters in Ober-Ramstadt. On 24th May along with the overall winner of "Hidden Champion 2012", awards were also given in the categories of sustainability, social responsibility as well as brand and generation change at the presentation in Frankfurt. The jury, which was supported by a high class board of trustees, praised the commitment of DAW in awarding it the first prize in the field of "Sustainability". "The company is the market leader for building paints in Germany, Austria and Turkey. These successes are achieved with a special regard to sustainable activity," cited the jury in its assessment. The DAW Group includes the well-known brands of Caparol and Alpina. Under the aspects of environmental protection, cost efficiency and user friendliness, sustainable construction has developed into a central topic in the construction and real estate fields. Apart from the optimisation of the building shape, the use of renewable energy sources and efficient system technology, the use of the right paints, enamels, glazes and insulation systems is becoming increasingly important. A high awareness of environmental and health issues, commitment to innovation, quality and durability also determine the corporate philosophy of the building paints manufacturer. Since 2010 the company has had a Sustainability Manager in Bettina Klump-Bickert who is responsible for the continual on-going development of the DAW sustainability strategy. Under the chairmanship of the Chairman of the DAW Managing Board, Dr. Ralf Murjahn, an external Sustainability Advisory Board supervises the content of the company's implementation of its sustainability activities. Numerous test labels, such as "Very good" from the "Öko-Test" magazine for interior wall paints and the Blue Angel for the water-based 2-in-1 enamel from Alpina underline the sustainable quality. At the start of 2012 the consumer group, Verbraucher-Initiative e.V. awarded DAW a silver medal as "Sustainable supplier 2011" for its brands, Caparol and Alpina.
