Sustainable company headquarters

DAW SE: Planned new construction awarded DGNB Advance Certificate in Silver

OBER-RAMSTADT. The new construction of the DAW company headquarters in Ober-Ramstadt which is in the planning stage has been awarded the Advance Certificate in Silver from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) for its high ecological standard. Dominic Church, Team Leader of System Applications at the DGNB handed over the certificate to DAW Director Rainer Reucker on 30th August.

"DAW has set itself the target of taking up the role of the forerunner in its field in terms of sustainability. The sustainably designed new construction is therefore also an expression of our long-established, environmentally orientated, corporate philosophy. Accordingly, all materials used on the building are planned such that they conform to the highest demands on pollutant-reduced construction," commented Reucker as he received the certificate in Ober-Ramstadt.

The German Sustainable Building Council has taken up the task of promoting sustainable and economically efficient construction. The sustainable building standard developed by the DGNB comprises more than sixty criteria in the fields of ecology and economy as well as socio-cultural and functional aspects, engineering, processes and location quality. "Through good co-operation with an integral planning team consisting of DAW, architects Brückner & Brückner (Würzburg/Tirschenreuth) as well as the sustainability consultants, ee-concept (Darmstadt), a very high process quality over all planning phases is always ensured," said Church.

"With the DGNB Advance Certificate in Silver DAW is further extending its sustainability strategy consisting of the three activity fields 'Sustainable Company' - 'Sustainable Products' - 'Sustainable Building'," says a delighted Bettina Klump-Bickert, who has been responsible for the subject of sustainability since 2010. "The new construction of our company headquarters is a beacon project in the sustainability sector. Special value is placed on the ecological quality, for example through the use of renewable raw materials and the reduction of grey energy," explained the Sustainability Manager of DAW SE during the presentation of the Advance Certificate.

"With the new construction of the DAW company headquarters the energy efficiency is a very significant factor, because buildings are currently the largest emitters of carbon dioxide," adds Andreas Gradinger (Manager of Health Care and General Enterprise at Caparol). Therefore, the most important sustainability aspects of the new construction are the undercutting of the primary energy requirement by 20 percent compared to the Energy Saving Directive (EnEV) 2009 through the use of geothermal heat, careful selection of low emission materials and high thermal comfort with component activation. Added to this are fringe-zone regulation and cooling panels as well as an attractive diversity in the outdoor area with roof greening and water areas.

The new construction borders the existing main administration building which will be extensively refurbished in the course of the overall building project.
