"The future of thermal insulation"

DAW starts stakeholder dialogue

Ober-Ramstadt, 15th January 2014 (DAW) – Due to the complex subject of thermal insulation which has been controversially discussed in the media, the building paints and insulation manufacturer DAW SE has, as the first company in its industrial Branch, founded the dialogue platform "Thermal insulation in the future" for all interest groups. After the opening event on the 12th December 2013 in Ober-Ramstadt, a first round of discussion with external participants is planned for the spring of 2014. Through its subsidiary companies, Caparol, alsecco and Alligator, DAW sells energy-saving thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS) to professional application operations, thereby making a contribution to climate protection. Buildings are responsible for more than 40% of the global energy consumption and are consequently amongst the largest emitters of carbon dioxide. "Energy efficiency in the building sector is therefore regarded as one of the keys to more climate protection," says Dr. Ralf Murjahn, Chairman of the Management Board at DAW SE. He is convinced that the insulation of existing buildings and new structures is a particularly effective solution with great potential in the future of fulfilling the national and international climate protection targets. Public perception is critical of thermal insulation for various reasons. Here, aspects such as the costs/benefits ratio, disposal or aesthetics and design are sometimes presented emotionally and one-sided.
An open interchange with the DAW stakeholders, i.e. interested groups such as architects, investors, associations and end consumers, is intended to contribute to making the debate more objective. The stakeholder dialogue, "The future of thermal insulation" offers the opportunity of taking up the ideas, desires and criticisms of the various participants and of discussing them constructively. "The objective is to develop solutions together for the future of thermal insulation," emphasises DAW Sustainability Manager Bettina Klump-Bickert, who is co-ordinating the dialogue within the company. The dialogue process is being supported by the agency, Dialog Basis. It takes place through several workshops, each building on the previous one, with the participation of the various interest groups. Dialog Basis with its headquarters in Dettenhausen near Tübingen is a scientifically orientated, interdisciplinary dialogue organisation with a high level of specialist methodical capability for civic involvement and stakeholder dialogues.
